The Franklin Farm Community Garden is venturing into its new season of growing and we are looking forward to seeing you! Our Garden Committee has been excitedly organizing and purchasing seeds in preparation for an incredible year of giving!
Because you gave so much by volunteering to tend, harvest, transport and break down the garden, the Franklin Farm grew over 40,000 pounds of farm fresh vegetables for the RI Food Bank and local food pantries! Your giving fed approximately 1,524 people a serving of farm fresh, naturally grown vegetables. You have made a difference in the lives of so many!
Please note some upcoming dates of Volunteering:
April 23rd & April 30th 9 am – Noon: CLEAN UP AND GARDEN PREP
Come help us get the grounds ready for the 2016 Season. Please bring a rake (marked with your name). We have gloves and will have lemonade and snacks!
May 16th & 19th 5:30- 7:30 pm: TENDING NIGHTS BEGIN
We will be at the garden every Monday and Thursday evening right through the end of September. Our tasks in May and June will be to prepare the new seeds and seedlings for the summer to come. Walking rows will be laid, tomato cages put in place, and some TLC for any plants that need it. No sign up or experience is necessary. Just check in at the garage with our Team Leader!
We are looking for a few new TEAM LEADERS. You do not have to have experience with the garden to volunteer as a TEAM LEADER. Our Garden Coordinator and support team will let you know how to direct volunteers during the Tending Nights. This is a great position for anyone who likes to meet new people. It is also a wonderful position for any high school/college student looking for leadership opportunities. We are looking to fill 15 Team Leader spots (the time commitment is 1 Tending Night (3 hours) – or as many Tending Nights as you would like to volunteers) Please contact Denise Mudge firstname.lastname@example.org, if you are interested.
We are also updating our volunteer lists. If you would like to stay on our lists, you do not need to do anything.
